Recently signed in London, the cooperation agreement between Abertis Infraestructuras and UNICEF has been presented in Rome. This agreement involves Abertis Infraestructuras, the Spanish multinational present in 15 countries which was the world’s first motorway concessionaire, together with its Italian subsidiary A4 Holding (a company managing 235 km of motorway in the north of Italy), working alongside UNICEF, the world's biggest organisation for the protection of children's rights, to implement a new international project to prevent road traffic accidents, which in many countries are among the main causes of death for children of school-age.

In fact, it has been estimated that 500 children die and 2,000 are seriously injured every day around the world as a result of road safety issues, especially during their journey to and from school.

In order to help develop prevention policies to tackle this global issue, this project, involving investments of one million dollars per year for three years, will initially be implemented and supported directly by Abertis on behalf of UNICEF in the Philippines and Jamaica, moving on to define specific projects also in Europe.

The agreement, which represents the first and biggest one of its kind on children’s road safety at international level, was signed during an event held at Rome's Scuderie del Quirinale in the presence of representatives of UNICEF Italia, Italian institutions and important players in the world of national infrastructure.

Giacomo Guerrera, President of UNICEF Italia, and Sergi Loughney, Director of Institutional Relations and CSR for Abertis and Director of the Abertis Foundation, highlighted the relationship between the international charity organisation and the Spanish multinational, whose aim is to bring together and exploit the synergies,  specific know-how and expertise of Abertis and UNICEF in order to benefit children all over the world.
